The Coffeyville Recreation Commission's Buddy Program received state-wide recognition on October 16 at InterHab's annual award luncheon in Wichita. Individuals served, staff and friends had the pleasure of seeing Jaime Grant, Coffeyville Recreation Special Events Coordinator, receive the 2015 Kansas Inclusive Communities Award!

The Buddy Program (also called "Buddy Ball") pairs participants with volunteers to assist with skills as needed during sporting events. The program offers baseball, bowling, basketball and volleyball. Individuals served by Mosaic in Southeast Kansas enjoy competing in their sporting events each year.

"We were excited and surprised to get the call that we were being recognized with an award," said Grant. "We don't do it to get recognition. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the players is reward enough." Grant, who was involved when the program first began, has seen first-hand the positive effect Buddy Ball has had on the entire community. "The buddy program lets people know that the participants are just like everyone else," she says.

Congratulations to Jaime and her team Coffeyville!
